OpenAI’s ChatGPT Raises Concerns as Scam Chatbot Emerges, Highlighting Dual-Use Dilemma

The features of ChatGPT, allowing users to create their own bots based on artificial intelligence, potentially have dual use – serving as a tool for cybercriminals as well as contributing to cybersecurity, according to BBC. OpenAI recently launched a service that enables the generation of individualized versions of ChatGPT for various tasks through a monthly subscription.

As a result, a scam chatbot named Crafty Emails has emerged, impressing with its ability to generate text content, emails, and social media posts using techniques commonly employed in internet scams. Compared to the free version of ChatGPT, Crafty Emails successfully performs tasks related to internet fraud.

While OpenAI refuses to comment on this situation, experts express concern about the effectiveness of the moderation mechanism, especially in comparison to the open version of ChatGPT. The company has announced the launch of an app store analog, where users can sell their own created bots.
Despite OpenAI’s promises to cease the use of the technology for unlawful purposes, experts believe that the moderation mechanism may be less effective, opening up possibilities for potential abuse of the technology by scammers.
